6-Day Meditation Retreat
Tuesday, July 19 - Sunday, July 24, 2022
This retreat will be held in a private home in Waterloo, Ontario. Over the course of 6 days, Gurumatha Amma will teach powerful techniques for self-realization, hatha yoga, pranayama (yogic breathing), meditation and Gayatri Maha Mantra. Gurumatha Amma will also expound the meaning and provide a rare initiation into the Surya Gayatri Mantra, the highest form of the Gayatri Maha Mantra.
The Surya Gayatri, also known as the Adi Gayatri, is an invocation that first appeared in the Rig Veda, an ancient scripture of India. It is considered the original and principal mantra among the Gayatri mantras dedicated to various deities. This mantra honours Surya Devata, also known as Savitri, the lord of the sun. As the effulgence that brings life to and illumines all activities in the world, Savitri represents the supreme light of Consciousness, the Self of all.
Initiation into this mantra improves clarity for meditation and facilitates the journey on the path to self-realization by consciously connecting our everyday life to the Universal Energy, represented through the form of the sun. Chanting of, and meditating on, the Surya Gayatri Mantra establishes a connection between the microcosm (the Individual Self) and the macrocosm (the Universal Self), thereby facilitating our journey on the path to self-realization and enlightenment.
